Vacation

I'm baaaack! The vacation I'd been planning (and fretting over food for- this was the backpacking vacation) has ended, I am now back home for my second week off work (staycation). Here's the vacation report:

First workout with She this morning, can I say it was nice to get back in the gym? Never thought I’d say that (and admittedly I still don’t quite enjoy exercise but am beginning to enjoy the feeling when I am all done).

So, vacation. First of all, I would like to curse Jack Frost for his role in the snow that covers most of Glacier still, including our trail. Washed out bridges, snowfields, snowed over campgrounds. We spent ½ of a day with the rangers trying to come up with a better plan/different route. Screw bears, the weather was our downfall.

That said, we stayed in an overpriced “lodge” in Whitefish (do not get me started on that place- frikking waterslide mesmerized my kids so we couldn’t even change hotels) and did day hikes. Which were nice.

But it wasn’t a total loss- I did 8 days of 3 meals a day eating out, and came home just 1.5 lbs above my last weigh in.

Skinnybuns asked me what I would have done in the past- last year would have been "no backpacking? Great excuse to hog out all week!" then I'd have had a stash of candy that the fam didn't know about, and (cue the sound of flushing-as in my health down the toilet) I'd have tucked pedometer away and pretended my diet didn't exist.

This year I forged onward, wore my pedometer and managed to get in some kick ass steps and not ONE dessert. I had salads until I wanted to scream, lots of bars and shakes (hotel neighbors NOT loving my magic bullet), more nuts than I should have had, and many steps…like, oh, say 20,000 in one day at that hellish Silverwood theme park. I drank so much water I thought I'd die every day. I also allowed myself as much sodium as I wanted which I normally don't do. So I'd guess I ate pretty clean but full/over calories.

So overall I feel pretty good.
